In this article, we explain how to connect the Ajax Transmitter to the Optex BX80 wireless outdoor sensor. This integration allows you to have full control of the 3rd party sensor from the Ajax App.
The Optex Bx80 outdoor wireless sensor has a range of 12 meters on both sides of the detector, making it perfect for protecting straight walls with doors and glass windows.
It has a narrow horizontal detection area that “runs” along the wall, so it will only be set off when an intruder approaches the wall/window. The range can also be adjusted to avoid detecting undesirable objects.
Step 1
Unscrew the outer lens cover of the BX80 and separate the back mounting box and transmitter casing from the main lens unit.
Step 2
The Ajax transmitter comes with 3 x white wires and 3 x black wires.
For the integration with the Bx80, you will only need 2 x white wires and 2 x black wires.
Step 3
Retrieve the red and black wire with the metal tabs on each end, which are supplied with the Bx80. Cut the metal tabs off at each end. Strip the wires (+/- 5mm) of their plastic coating on each end.
Step 4
Connect the red wire to the + (positive) and the black wire to the – (negative) of the Ajax Transmitter. Take the black and white wires supplied with the Transmitter and connect them as depicted in the photo below. Black and white in ALARM and black and white in TAMP.
Step 5
Insert the red (+) and black (-) wires through the gap in the Bx80 transmitter casing and through the “post box slit”. Screw in the red wire to the (+) and the black wire to the (-) connection on the main lens unit.
STEP 6
Repeat the process with the black and white wires which are connected to the ALARM connections on the Ajax transmitter. Take these wires through the casing gap and “post box slit”. Screw the white wire into the NO connection and the black wire into the COM connection on the ALM side, as depicted in the photo below.
STEP 7
Repeat the process with the black and white wires which are connected to the TAMP connections on the Ajax transmitter. Take these wires through the casing gap and “post box slit”. Screw in the white wire to the COM connection and the black wire into the NO connection on the TAMPER side, as depicted in the photo below.
STEP 8
Change the DIP switch set up as depicted below.
STEP 9
Take the Velcro strips supplied with the Bx80 and stick the one side on the back of the Ajax transmitter and the other inside the transmitter casing. Now Velcro the transmitter into the transmitter casing.
STEP 10
With your Ajax smartphone App, scan the QR code located on the Ajax transmitter box (inside the box lid). When advised by the App, press the small black button on the transmitter. The integration is now complete. You can close the transmitter casing, back mounting box and lens cover.
Don’t forget to set the Tamper Status on the App (Devices, Ajax Transmitter, Settings), as “Normally Closed” and the External Sensor Supply as “Always enabled”.
Please follow the mounting instructions as indicated in the Optex Bx80 manual.
